There was plenty of time for a proper breakfast today so I had a bacon sandwich made with very thick bread. Margaret had arranged to meet some friends, Kevin and Sue, who would come with us on this part of the walk.
What a place to build a house!

| Newquay Harbour |
After meeting up at the harbour the weather was a bit drizzly to begin with but cheered up as the day went on.

The Huer Hut
|
The Huer would watch out to sea all day, and even on moon lit nights, looking out for the giant shoals of glinting pilchards or other fish passing by – the distinctive ripple and colour of the pilchard shoals were called Shirming locally.

| Crossing the Gannel near the Fernpit ferry |
It was low tide so we were able to cross the bridge near the ferry but as you can see the bridge wasn't quite long enough! Kevin took off his boots and tested it for us but it wasn't too deep and our boots were still wet anyway from yesterday's rain so we scuttled across as fast as we could with our boots on.
We had a coffee stop here with a nice piece of homemade cake baked by Sue which was very welcome.

| Crantock Beach |
 |
| Through the dunes at Holywell Bay |
We had a lunch stop here in the dunes and at last the sun shone and walking was very pleasant without the steep ascents and descents we had on previous days.

| Perran Sands |
 |
| Perranporth Beach |
We finished the last two miles of the walk on the beach and had time for ice cream or cups of tea before catching the bus back to Newquay.
It was European football night on the television so we went early to Wetherspoons so we could watch it in the B&B but it was a nil nil draw and was so entertaining that Margaret fell asleep at half time! I was supporting Wales anyway and they were doing much better.
