Porthcothan to Newquay 10

After a poor night's sleep due to the noise outside we had an early breakfast so that we could catch the bus back to Porthcothan. Unfortunately this turned out to be the wettest day of our trip and it got steadily worse as we approached Newquay.

In the rain

We deserved a treat at the National Trust cafe at Bedruthan Steps that was surprisingly busy. And then on to one of my least favourite places on the Cornish coast, Mawgan Porth. I have been there many times in the past and my memories of it are that it always rains there. I'm sure it doesn't really but of course it did today.
Margaret became quite poetic there and came up with the following poem with a little help from William Henry Davies! A bit tongue in cheek I think.

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?
At Mawgan Porth in all its splendour,
With all its beauty and all its wonder!

We chatted to a couple of young volunteers raising money for the RLNI before going on our way to Watergate Bay where we stopped for lunch on the beach in the shelter of a wall.
Watergate Bay

A magnificent beach and very popular with surfers but not very busy today as the weather was bleak.
First sight of Newquay in the distance

We were quite wet by the time we arrived back at the B&B and had to put our boots in the shower so they wouldn't make a mess everywhere. There was no way they would dry by the next day.
